Scouts at Jane Ryan

Jane Ryan has an active cub scout program for grades first through fifth.  Over the years, the pack has sponsored many annual fun events, including an overnight at Lime Rock race track, the Pinewood Derby, where boys build race cars and compete against each other, the Fishing Derby and overnight at Deer Lake, Water Rocket Derby at Jane Ryan, and helped the Jane Ryan community in a spring and fall clean up.  Last year, Pack 64 did their first overnight on the Intrepid Air and Space Museum in New York City.  For more information about cub scouts at Jane Ryan, please contact co-cubmaster Jen Kane at chandlerkane@charter.net.

First Camp Out – – Lime Rock Race Track – September 30-October 1

The pack’s first overnight camping of the year, and a great day of watching races, walking through the car pit and talking to drivers while checking out the race cars at Lime Rock Park. Food is available for purchase at the track. Do the camping overnight or just come up for the day! Tickets are $15 for scouts and adults. Cub scouts and siblings under 10 are $7 each. Monday, October 17 in the JR Cafeteria from 7-8 pm

The Wolves host our pack meeting on kindness.  The scouts will be making kindness bells for Ben’s Bells.  Final payment for the Mystic Aquarium overnight is due.

 

Monday, November 7 in the JR Cafeteria from 7-8 pm

The Bears host and Webelos 1 will start the meeting with a religious ceremony.  In recognition of Veterans Day, the scouts and siblings will hear from a variety of veterans about their service experiences.

 

Monday, December 12 in the JR Cafeteria and Gym from 7-8 pm

The Webelos 2 host and run a basketball clinic with special guests and a holiday donation drive to benefit IMPACTRUMBULL.

 

Friday, January 6-7 at Mystic Aquarium

The pack does an overnight.  Cost is $70 per person, which includes an evening snack and full breakfast in the Penguin Cafe, five classes held during the evening in rotation ( a Special Tour, Squid Dissection, a Touch and Learn, a Scavenger Hunt and Amphibian Fun) and an outdoor tour before check out on January 7. All participants will be given free admission to the aquarium on the day following the overnight. The participants will be allowed to set up their areas after the final wrap up meeting. Departure from the Aquarium is at 9:30am.  A $25 non-refundable per person deposit is due on September 19. Or, you can pay online prior to this meeting at http://trumbull64.mypack.us/node/1349. Final payment is due at our October pack meeting.

 

 

Monday, January 9 in the JR Cafeteria from 7-8 pm

The Tigers host along with Trumbull’s K9 Dog Training unit.  Pinewood Derby cars will be distributed to all, including sibling cars for $5 per car.

 

Thursday, February 9 in the JR Cafeteria from 6-7:30 pm

Friday, February 10 in the JR Cafeteria from 5-8 pm

The Pack’s annual Pinewood Derby car race.  Pizza and drinks are provided for all pack families.

 

Sunday, March 12 from 12-2 pm

The Pack’s annual Blue and Gold Banquet.  Lunch and entertainment will be provided for all families plus each den will perform skits.  Location to be determined.

 

Saturday, April 1 or 8 at Deer Lake Scout Reservation – Date TBA

The annual Fishing Derby begins at 8 am.  Boys fish from 8-11 am.  Adults fish from 11 am-1 pm.  Our pack will do a day trip only.  Cost is $18 per scout, which includes a heart pancake breakfast, fishing and commemorative patch.  Prizes awarded to first 75 youths who catch a fish before 11 am.  Breakfast available for anyone who wants to attend by not fish for $5.

 

Monday, April 3 in the JR Cafeteria from 7-8 pm

Wolves host local authors and illustrators who will speak in small groups to the scouts about their writing and drawing.

 

Friday, May 12 in the JR Cafeteria and Jane Ryan Field from 5:30-8 pm

The Pack’s annual Water Rocket Derby, at which the scouts and siblings launch their homemade rockets.  Pizza and drinks will be provided for all families attending.

 

Monday, June 5 in the Gym and Jane Ryan Field from 7-8 pm

The Bears will host their scout carnival for all scouts and siblings.  This is the pack’s last meeting of the year.
